Mary Anne Grosch wanted to be a teacher since her youth. This passion for teaching only grew as she graduated college with a degree in Fine Art and English. She later obtain her Montessori Certification and a master's degree in Education.
She’s certified in a variety of teaching modalities, ranging from traditional to progressive. Applying all of her knowledge from certifications, classes, and conferences gives her a plethora of teaching ideas and activities to share with the children.
As a child, our director, Mary Anne Grosch, wanted to be a teacher. This desire was very strong, and having graduated from college with a degree in Fine Art and English, the longing did not go away. While teaching Sunday School she met a mom whose child was in a home-based Montessori program. This led to an observation that left her mesmerized! At first glance it looked ridiculous to see children spooning beans from one bowl to another. As time progressed, she was amazed at the children building a broad stair and laying out math problems to be solved with the golden beads and made the decision then and there to pursue Montessori certification. Having been certified in The Spalding Method of Phonics, she knew Montessori was the path for her and the Spalding program would fit in nicely. As she waited to adopt a child, our director obtained her master’s degree in education. After adopting a child from Bulgaria, she began using Classical Conversations to teach her child. This fits in beautifully in a Montessori environment because it involves singing and chants which are repetitive each week along with being quick and easy. The children sing at different times of the day to learn certain disciplines and are required to present each week. The presentation can be about anything they wish. It teaches the child self-discipline, comfort in standing in front of a crowd and critical thinking. Applying all her knowledge from certifications, classes and conferences gives this teacher a plethora of teaching ideas and activities to share with the children.
When she is in the classroom, she is in her happy place!
She recently read “Start, Stay or Leave” by Trey Gowdy. The book discusses the benefit of starting with the end in sight and deciding how you live on in the lives and memories of others, how you have made an impact and what you have built with your life. She pondered what she wanted said at her funeral and decided it should be. “She invested in the lives of children and taught them many things.”
